A raw 3D print in a single filament color only gets you so far when the goal is a display-quality collectible — this Sonic figure is a good example of how much post-processing changes the final result. Printed in PLA on the Bambu Lab X1C, the figure was cleaned up, primed, and then finished entirely with an airbrush to build up the smooth color gradients and shading Sonic's design is known for.
Airbrushing over hand painting made it possible to get soft transitions between colors — blue to lighter blue on the body, clean highlights on the shoes and eyes — without visible brush strokes. The result sits closer to game-accurate collectible than a typical printed fan piece.
