If It Exists Physically, We Can Capture It Digitally

3D scanning bridges the gap between the physical and digital worlds — taking an object that exists in your hands and converting it into a precise, usable 3D model you can modify, replicate, archive, or send straight to a printer.

Extrusionary Designs offers professional 3D scanning services in Spokane and the Inland Northwest for engineers, manufacturers, small businesses, and makers who need to work with geometry that doesn't exist as a file yet. Whether you're reverse engineering a discontinued component, replicating a worn part, preserving an object digitally, or capturing geometry for modification — we scan it, clean it, and deliver it in the format your next step requires.

Need it printed too? We handle the full scan-to-print pipeline in-house. Bring us the part. We'll take it from there.

What We Scan For

Reverse Engineering, Part Replication, and Digital Archiving

Reverse Engineering

Have a part with no drawings, no file, and no manufacturer to call? We scan it, model the geometry, and deliver a clean 3D file you can modify, improve, and manufacture from. Ideal for legacy components, custom-built parts, and anything where the original design documentation no longer exists. We can also adjust tolerances or improve on the original geometry during the modeling process.

Part Replication

Discontinued part? Worn-out component? Broken piece you can no longer source? Bring us the original — or even a fragment — and we'll scan it, clean the geometry, and print a functional replacement in the right material. Our scan-to-print pipeline means you don't have to manage the handoff between scanning and printing. One service, one studio, one result.

Digital Archiving

Preserve physical objects as permanent, accurate digital records — for insurance purposes, heritage documentation, product cataloguing, or simply because the physical item is irreplaceable and you want a backup you can reproduce. We scan, clean, and deliver high-quality mesh files that faithfully capture the geometry of your object for as long as you need to keep it.

Full Pipeline

Scan to Print — The Complete Replacement Part Service

Most scanning services give you a file and leave you to figure out the rest. We don't. When you need a physical replacement — not just a digital model — our scan-to-print pipeline takes you from part in hand to replacement in hand without any gaps in the process.

We scan your original part, process and clean the geometry, optimize it for FDM printing, select the appropriate material for your application, print it, and quality-check the output. The replacement comes back to you tested and ready to use. No coordinator needed between a scanner and a printer — it's all handled here.

The Process

Bring Us the Object. We Handle Everything Else.

01
Tell us what you need scanned

Describe your object, your intended use for the scan data, and whether you need a file only or the full scan-to-print service. If you can send photos of the object first, we can give you an accurate quote before you bring it in.

02
We scan and process

We scan your object and process the raw data into a clean, usable 3D mesh. Depending on complexity, this may include mesh repair, feature cleanup, and geometry optimization to make the model suitable for your next step.

03
Review and confirm

We share the processed model for your review before delivering or proceeding to print. If adjustments are needed — tolerances, modifications, scaling — we address them here.

04
File delivery or finished print

Receive your clean 3D file in your required format, your printed replacement part, or both. Local pickup in Spokane or shipped to you. Your original part is returned with your order.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What kinds of objects can you 3D scan?

We can scan a wide range of physical objects including mechanical parts, components, tools, housings, brackets, and irregularly shaped items. Object size, surface finish, and material can affect scan quality — contact us with details about your specific part and we'll advise on feasibility.

Can you scan a part and then print a replacement?

Yes — our scan-to-print pipeline handles the entire process. We scan your part, clean and prepare the model, and print the replacement in the appropriate material. You only need to bring us the original part.

What file formats do you deliver scan data in?

We deliver cleaned scan data in STL, OBJ, and STEP formats depending on your intended use. STL is standard for 3D printing; STEP is better for further CAD work or machining. Let us know what your next step is and we'll deliver the right format.

Can you scan a discontinued part I can no longer source?

Yes — this is one of the most common reasons people come to us for scanning. Bring us the original part, we scan and model it, clean up the geometry, and print a functional replacement. We can also adjust dimensions or improve on the original design if needed.
