No File? No Problem. We Design Parts That Are Built to Be Made.

Most 3D printing services need a finished file before they can help you. We don't. Extrusionary Designs offers a full CAD design service for customers in Spokane, Coeur d'Alene, and the Inland Northwest who need a part modeled from scratch — or an existing file repaired, modified, or optimized for FDM printing.

We specialize in hard surface and mechanical parts: brackets, enclosures, housings, mounts, jigs, fixtures, and functional components that need to fit, assemble, and perform. Every model we produce is designed with the printer in mind — correct wall thicknesses, appropriate overhangs, and tolerances that account for how FDM parts actually behave — so what comes off the build plate matches what you approved on screen.

File delivery in STL, STEP, OBJ, or whatever your workflow requires.

How We Can Help

New Model, Modified File, or Print-Optimized Design — We Handle All Three

From Sketch to File

Have an idea, a sketch, or a reference — but no CAD file? This is where most of our CAD projects start. Send us your concept and the key requirements: dimensions, tolerances, how it connects to other parts, and what it needs to do. We'll build the model, show you the design, and refine it until it's exactly right.

Modify or Repair an Existing Model

Got a file that's almost right — but needs a dimension changed, a feature added, or a geometry error fixed before it'll print? Send it over. We work with existing STL, STEP, and OBJ files and can modify, repair, or completely rework sections without starting from scratch. Faster turnaround, lower cost, and you keep what's already working.

Design for 3D Printing

Already have CAD experience but want a model designed specifically for FDM output? We model with print constraints built in from the start — wall thicknesses that hold, overhangs that don't need excessive support, and tolerances that account for real-world FDM variation. The result is a file that prints cleanly the first time, not the fifth.

Deliverables

Files That Work — In the Format You Need

Every CAD project we complete includes a review stage where you see the model before we finalise it. Revisions are part of the process — we don't hand over a file and disappear. Once you're satisfied, we deliver in whatever format your next step requires.

STL

Standard format for 3D printing. Ready to slice and print immediately.

STEP

Parametric format for further engineering work, CNC machining, or importing into other CAD software. Preferred by engineers and manufacturers.

OBJ

Versatile mesh format compatible with most 3D software and rendering tools.

Other formates on request

Need something else? Ask. We'll do our best to accommodate your workflow.

Print-and-deliver option

We can design your part and print it in one seamless service. No extra handoffs, no file compatibility headaches.

The Process

Collaborative From First Message to Final File

01
Tell us about your part

Share what you need modeled — a sketch, reference images, dimensions, material, intended use, and any tolerances that matter. The more context you give us, the faster we can get you an accurate quote.

02
We quote and confirm scope

We'll review the brief and come back with a clear quote covering design time, revision rounds, and delivery format. Any questions or ambiguities get resolved here — before we start modeling.

03
We design and you review

We build the model and share renders or screenshots for your review. You give feedback, we refine. This continues until the design is exactly what you need.

04
File delivery — and print if you want it

We deliver your file in the agreed format. If you want the part printed, we can go straight from design to build plate — no re-uploading, no compatibility issues, just a finished part.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to provide to get a CAD design made?

A sketch, photo, reference image, or even a verbal description is enough to get started. The more detail you can share about dimensions, tolerances, and intended use, the faster and more accurately we can model it.

What file formats do you deliver CAD work in?

We deliver in whatever format you need — STL, STEP, OBJ, and others on request. STL is standard for 3D printing; STEP is preferred for further engineering work or machining.

Can you fix or modify a model I already have?

Yes. Send us your existing file and describe what needs to change — whether that's fixing geometry errors, adjusting tolerances, scaling, or adding and removing features. We'll assess the file and quote accordingly.

Do you design parts specifically for 3D printing?

Yes — and this is an important distinction. Parts designed for FDM printing require specific considerations around wall thickness, overhangs, support structures, and layer orientation. We design with the printer in mind, not just the end shape, which means better prints and less post-processing.
