A broken lever on an RV captain's chair, from a manufacturer that has gone out of business. We 3D scanned the original and printed a replacement in PA-CF, instead of the customer buying a whole new chair.

The original lever on an RV captain's chair broke. The company that made the chair is out of business, so there was no replacement lever to order. The only way to get one was to buy a complete chair, at roughly $5,000.

Instead, we 3D scanned the original lever on a turntable, with tracking targets around it to keep the scan aligned, and cleaned up the mesh in the scanning software. The lever has a ribbed, tapered body and a splined hub where it connects to the chair, so the geometry needed to be captured accurately.

From that scan we printed a replacement lever in PA-CF, a carbon-fiber-filled nylon, on our Bambu Lab X1C, so the chair could be repaired for far less than the cost of a new one.
